We asked the locals where we should go to eat the best jerk chicken/pork and “The Pork Pit” was a favorite of many. It was located about 1/2 mile from our hotel so we had walked past it mutiple times and decided to try it out. You walk up the stairs to a loft area, order and pay for your meal/drinks from a counter and pick up your meat in the pit area.
The shovel in the foreground looks like it has a rough life.
I thought the meat would be salty but was pleasantly surprised to find that it was more of a savory spice that gave it its “zip.” Red Stripe was a good choice of beverage to wash down the delicious meal.
A young boy about 9 or 10 years old was selling candy bars (after school job, maybe?) and followed us up to the pit area – I couldn’t help but donate to his cause as he has the sad look perfected and afterwards thought maybe I should have given more. Oh, well. Can’t do it all.
A portrait artist came up to our table just as we were sitting down. He offered to draw a portrait of us for a fee but he wasn’t nearly as cute as the boy and we aren’t that good looking so we declined. Again – Oh, well. Can’t do it all.
